Challenge of the Deep is an immersive environment at the Institute for Exploration, founded by the explorer Robert D. Ballard. The larger goal of the exhibit is to inspire a new generation of explorers.
Visitors enter the experience by boarding the stern of a research vessel filled with the objects of modern deepwater exploration, including the Turtle, a research DSV. As visitors move deeper into the exhibit the experience becomes progressively less familiar, filled with creatures and objects that have been brought up from the depths.
